How the tracker works

Grant access once. From then on, every drive is detected, mapped and saved on its own, ready for your tax deduction or reimbursement.

Behind the scenes of a tracked drive

What Mileafy does from the moment you pick up your keys to the moment the drive lands in your log.

1. Waiting quietly

Between drives Mileafy uses low-power motion detection and the spot where you last parked, so GPS isn't running while you're at your desk or at home.

2. A drive starts

When your phone reports driving motion and GPS confirms car speed, Mileafy starts the trip. Walking, running and cycling aren't logged as drives.

3. While you drive

The route, distance and time are recorded. On iPhone, a Live Activity shows miles and deduction on the Lock Screen; progress is saved as you go.

4. You park

After you've stopped for a while, the trip ends. Mileafy pins the start and end to the moment you got in and out of the car, so addresses land at the right door, not a block away.

5. Saved and synced

The drive is saved to your account, even if you lose signal or the app is closed, and appears in your Drives list ready to classify.

Swipe, then export

Swipe each drive to Business or Personal, then export a PDF or CSV for your taxes or employer.

Made for how you drive

Frequent Drives Mode

For delivery and rideshare: keeps tracking ready between stops so short hops right after a drop-off are counted too.

Bluetooth & CarPlay

Pick your car's Bluetooth or CarPlay and Mileafy starts tracking the second your phone connects.

Private by design

Your drive history is private and secured. We don't sell your location data, and employers only see work drives you submit.

Permissions it needs

Automatic tracking only works when the phone lets Mileafy see location in the background. The app walks you through each switch.

iPhone
Location: Always, with Precise Location on · Motion & Fitness · Notifications (optional, for drive alerts)
Android
Location: Allow all the time · Physical activity · Notifications (for the tracking status)

Tracker FAQ

Do I need to open Mileafy before each drive?

No. Once location and motion access are granted, Mileafy detects drives in the background, even when the app isn't open.

Why does Mileafy need location access set to Always?

Drives start when the app isn't on screen. Without Always (iPhone) or Allow all the time (Android), the phone stops sharing location in the background and trips can't be recorded automatically.

Will Mileafy log my walks or runs as drives?

No. A drive needs both driving motion and car-grade speed. Walking, running and cycling are filtered out.

What if I'm a passenger?

Passenger trips are detected like any drive. Swipe them to Personal, or delete them; only business drives count toward your deduction or reimbursement.

Can I add a drive I forgot to track?

Yes. Add a drive by hand with start and end addresses and Mileafy fills in the route and distance.
